The Board of Pardons and Paroles considers the magnitude of the crime committed and the impact on the victim. The victim and the state’s attorney may also have input. Assessment of the applicant’s rehabilitation and evaluation of accomplishments that the applicant has achieved since serving time takes place. Ultimately, the Board wants to ensure the public interest is served by expunging the individual’s criminal record.

The length of time it takes to obtain a pardon can vary based on how many applications are received and how long it takes each required agency to review the application and criminal record of the applicant.
